Dear Mr Gifkins,

I think the whole of parkvale school enjoyed market day, I think it gave them a chance to learn what advertising is all about.  I also enjoyed it because I could understand how it is to run a business.  It was a very good experience for the whole of the school to enjoy.

Market day was fun, we got a day off to experience market day.  some of the kids didn't enjoy market day, but most of them did.

market day was new to the whole school and thats why they enjoyed it so much.  but if we do market day next year the children will enjoy it the same.  market day was excellent.

My Blood Story

My Blood Story
I’m going at least 10km down my dads steep driveway, but I get worried because I see a big rock that I know would get wedged in the wheels in my shoes.  But I know I couldn’t turn in time, so I just took it. But I didn't know that it would be this bad.

The trailer was right behind the rock, but it was too late.  I tripped on the rock, fell and screamed...

...My head had smashed into the corner of the little bar of the trailer.  I cut my forehead open and it was bleeding like heck it was like a dark dark thick blood waterfall, it was trickling down my face into my mouth it tasted like metal. I was screaming, a lot. Dad had to get a rag to put pressure on the slash.  After about an hour I calmed down and dad stepped away.  “You calmed down yet”, Dad says, “yep” I weep in reply.  “Do you want some water on that cut?” “n,n no” I weep.  Then we put butterfly stitches on the cut and we went to Taupo for some Mcdonalds.

the end or is it?

The door to Heaven.

a glimpse of light.jpg

I hear the melody of a music box behind the bookcase.  I was scared and my hands were trembling, all I could do was pull books off the bookcase awkwardly.  Then suddenly my hand fell on something it was a button, I almost screamed, the button was grabbing me so I started to push in.  Then out of no where there came a voice and you will never guess what it said. “A door will start to fade into this very room like a Polaroid camera”.  “You have to make a choice to go into the door or stay safe in the ordinary world if you go in you have made your choice you can't come back”.

I wanted to go in but when I heard I couldn’t come back I had to think about it for a long time.  Then I asked if my Mum and Dad would be there, and he said no, the room fell silent.  “B-but what will do without them, is this your world did you make it I asked desperately.  Yeeees, why he said.  “I wanted to know if you could put my parents into the world” I asked slowly.  “Ok ok I’ll put them into the world”.  “Yus!!!” I yell and sprint to the door, open the it and run in.  “Ha so gullible” says the creepy voice.

small boats and basket boats

Prior Knowledge - what I already know
New Information - what I read in the text
Synthesis - my new understanding is
Dinghies are sometimes controlled by ores and motors.  small boats are easily sunk if too much weight is put on them.
Small boats easily splintered and water comes into them and they sink.

basket boats are made from bamboo.
A sticky resin from a special tree is put on the inside and outside to make the boat waterproof.
They are very safe and they don't sink.
basket boats are very similar to small boats  basket boats are safer because they don't tip or sink.

character description

“Honey can you get the remote for me?!” As soon as I hear this I know mum is lying on the couch and needing the remote for the T.V.  Her blond hair sticking up, a pale face, bloodshot eyes, sounding tired and smells like smelly laundry. “Why do I always have to get it!”
“Because you're closer”.
“But I'm in the conservatory”
“So?”
“Okay okay I’ll get it!!!”

Its annoying mum always gets her way and if she doesn't, her reaction is very big, so even if I want something so so bad I can't ask over and over again!  Her humor is very small so if I make a joke she won't even laugh she will just put on a watery smile.  My mum is not very sensitive .  If I knock her, she wouldn't get very angry.

Like a thief in the night, mum sneaks out our house. I wonder where she's gone, the movies, a cafe or even another country!!!  But she’s just gone to work for another night shift. So she is always begging to get into her pajamas at like 3 o'clock in the afternoon because she is tired and she probably isn't the only one.  But if she asks too much, she is bending her chances.

Mum spends time lots of time with me, but the thing that she is always spending time with, is my dog Ella.  We are training her to do things like catching balls while their in the air, shaking hands and walking on her hind legs, Ella is a very smart dog, she can do things like sit, ,stay put and lie down.  The commands for them are sit, stay and down I like Ella and mum especially does.

Inflatable world

During the second week of my school holidays I spent some time with my mum. But get this, I had to go to a holiday programme!  Its name was YMCA. I thought it was going to be sooo boring, but it wasn't! It was fun because we went to Inflatable World.  Inflatable World is really cool.  My favourite thing about it were the sumo suits.  And guess what the sumo suits section has a little arena with little fat sumo suits that you put on. and by the way if you fall over good luck with getting back up.

Inflatable world is really fun and there is also an obstacle course.  At the start of it there is a big wall with foam blocks sticking out that you hold  onto, then once you've passed that there is a big slide that you go down.

When you're at the bottom there are two thin tubes that you have to try and crawl through.have you ever tackled someone!? no? well if you're at Inflatable world now is  your chance.  Once you get through there are inflatable poles and you have a choice: tackle, kick, punch or ram I always go with ram but still its your choice.  now the obstacle course is done.

So I hope you enjoy Inflatable World because I sure did.  The sumo suits are really cool.  And also I've had a little battle with someone in a sumo suit it was fun except when I fell I was just being a bit clumsy.

Baby Toothless

Baby toothless

I was holding a small dragon in my hand it looked like a baby toothless.  It’s mouth was smoking. It was like it was about to breath fire and burn my hand I wanted to drop it but it was so cute and I couldn't hurt it.  suddenly it sneezed and it burnt my hand I dropped and it hit the ground it was squealing in pain.  “Hold on little buddy i’ll be back soon!” I said.  I dumped my hand under cold water “now I need to get back to the dragon” I said.  It was still squealing in pain I picked him up, his mouth was still smoking “dont spit little boy i’m not going to hurt you, I promise” I said  He squealed like he was saying ok I feel safe with you.  I laughed, I was only holding with one hand because my other hand was burnt.  I took him outside and let him find his family.  “Go and find your family” I said.

On Tuesday we celebrated matariki by choosing three activities that were things like making pois, kite making, cooking (fried bread), string games, kio-rahi(pretty much dodgeball) matariki is a maori celebration matariki is the name of the seventh fish, the seven stars are now stars.  The god of the sky is ranginui and he  lifted the seven fish up with him and they became stars.  And that is the story of matariki.

Matariki was cool because we didn't have to do any school work!!!     the workshops that I did were waiata, poi making and string games.  my favorite workshop was probably poi, It was fun because we weaved two pieces of colored string, it was shredded into little strips and we made groups of four with the string and then we weaved them.  Then we made the main part of the poi we got stuffing, a plastic bag (white), some string and a pair of scissors.

step 1.get your stuffing and put it on the top of your string.
step 2.get your plastic bag (white) wrap it tightly around the stuffing.
step 3.get your string and knot it around the bottom of the plastic bag and tighten your string
step 4.get your scissors and cut some of the plastic bag around the string and its as easy as that.

How To Make Earthquakes

First you make something called a quake generator to make one you need a big stick, two car batteries and of course your hands.  Then to make a quake generator join the positive and the negative from each battery and with the other two positives and negatives on the stick.  Take them inside and leave them overnight. Then in the morning take them off and you're done.  To activate the quake generator you hit it on the ground as hard as possible.  It should make a big shake and the stick should light up with blue and red.  But watch out don't do it near your house “you should know why!!!!!”

If you are really strong you can even make a crack in the ground like this but only, only if you are really strong.  So yea that's not gonna to happen any time soon.

earthquakes aren't good but when you're doing it its the fun of your life!!!

pssst over here but its not fun when you make a big crack!!!  Any way lets get back to work.  The real things that actually make earthquakes are big plates deep deep down in the ground and when they collide they shake and make an earthquake.

my favourite thing this year

My favorite thing this year was my mum coming to teach my class C.P.R.  C.P.R stands for cardio pulmonary resuscitation.  My mum brought in practice mannequins.
You breathe into their mouths and their chests slowly rise looking like they are breathing.  We had long strips of plastic that had special material that you can blow through.  You put it on their mouths so you don’t get germs from other people.  C.P.R  mannequins look like this

It was funny because mum told me to lie on the ground like I was unconscious and she put me in the recovery position.  To put an unconscious person in the recovery position you have to place them on their side with their knee on the ground so they don't roll onto their tummy.  And then put their right hand behind their head then… YELL FOR HELP!!!

Mum showed us how hard to push on the mannequins chests.  It makes a clicking noise… but don't do that to a real person because you would be breaking their ribs!!!! It was fun when mum came.  She works at the hastings central hospital.  She is a nurse and works in E.D.  E.D stands for emergency department. What nurses do is stuff like blood tests, flu injections, cuts. Just the stuff you think they would do.

Something I could improve on this year is probably maths and how to how to answer the question properly.  This year has been fun and I'm really enjoying 2014.

the wolf

Firstly, I called my story the wolf because I was trying to let the
audience know that it was set in the bush, also that they would know that it is sort of scary and I did that the colours I put in.  So who is this book for?

Secondly, the book is about a wolf in the bush.  he is wild and he has been poisoned that's why his eyes are green.  I made it look like there's a sandstorm reflection in his red evil eyes.

Thirdly, my title is the wolf I chose that because I thought that it would pop out at the reader and grab their attention.  I positioned the title on the top of the page because the reader would straight away see it and pick the book.  the style I used was block letters with cracks on them.  I chose the block letters with cracks because I thought that the reader would think it’s cool and read it.

Finally, now to answer my initial question the age group is 9+ I think that is a good age group because i'm 9 and i’m not scared of books like that.
